Energy future
The progress on LS GreenLink in Chesapeake is a testament to what conservative leadership can deliver for Virginia’s economy. This week, vertical construction began for the $681 million phase 1 portion of the facility.
Mayor Rick West and the Chesapeake City Council deserve the lion’s share of credit for bringing the largest submarine power cable manufacturing facility in the United States to Hampton Roads. Their vision and persistence turned a major economic opportunity into reality — creating good-paying jobs and strengthening Virginia’s industrial backbone.
Virginia’s energy future depends on an all-of-the-above strategy: offshore wind, nuclear, natural gas, and the advanced manufacturing that ties it all together. LS GreenLink is a cornerstone of that vision. The cables produced in Chesapeake will help power the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project — one of the largest offshore wind developments in the nation, set to deliver clean, reliable energy to hundreds of thousands of homes.
This facility will bring hundreds of skilled manufacturing jobs directly to Chesapeake and inject millions into the local economy, and position Hampton Roads as a national hub for energy infrastructure. Local suppliers, tradespeople, and small businesses across the region stand to benefit for decades to come.
Supporting offshore wind is not about choosing sides — it is about choosing Virginia. It means cheaper energy bills, greater grid reliability, and less dependence on energy sources we do not control.
