SC Senate Passes South Carolina Energy Freedom Act

May 8, 2019

Conservatives for Clean Energy (CCE) South Carolina issued the following statement highlighting the passage of the South Carolina Energy Freedom Act. This landmark clean energy bill will provide more energy choice, increase competition within the state energy market and expand rooftop solar energy by removing the existing 2% net-metering cap allowing solar customers to be compensated fairly for the energy they produce and send back to the grid.  Most importantly, this bill will save more than 3,000 solar jobs already created in South Carolina.

“It is great day for clean energy in the Palmetto State,” said Giff Carpenter, Executive Director of Conservatives for Clean Energy South Carolina. “Today, the South Carolina Senate overwhelmingly passed the Energy Freedom Act proving that support for clean energy is stronger than ever here.”  In fact, a recent survey conducted by CCE SC this spring found that 81% of likely voters support the development of clean energy in South Carolina (more than 55% of these voters strongly support it.)  Giff Carpenter added, “This bill will unleash rooftop and commercial solar encouraging dynamic solar expansion in our state, but the real winners are the state’s ratepayers who will see more energy choice.”

Conservatives for Clean Energy South Carolina (CCE SC)was launched in March of 2019. CCE SC is comprised of local and statewide conservative leaders who believe in a genuine “all of the above” approach to South Carolina’s energy policy, we are committed to advancing clean and renewable energy in the Palmetto State.  We believe that by embracing clean energy we will lower costs for all consumers by increasing the commitment to developing reliable, homegrown energy sources and expand energy efficiency.
