September 12, 2024

In response to ongoing discussions from the 2024 legislative session, the South Carolina Senate has established the “Special Committee on South Carolina’s Energy Future.” This eleven-member panel, chaired by Senate Majority Leader Shane Massey and outgoing Senate Minority Leader Nikki Setzler, has been tasked with addressing the state’s critical need for increased power generation.

The committee convened for its inaugural meeting on August 22, 2024. During this session, key insights were shared by representatives from the state’s utility companies: Dominion, Duke Energy, and Santee Cooper. With energy demands growing, the committee is set to reconvene on September 26, 2024, to continue shaping South Carolina’s energy strategy.

Senators serving on this pivotal committee include Harvey Peeler, Tom Davis, Luke Rankin, Margie Bright Matthews, Brad Hutto, Michael Gambrell, Gerald Malloy, Wes Climer, and Chip Campsen.
