May 30, 2019

Richmond – Senate Majority Leader Thomas K. Norment, Jr. (R-James City) announced today that Senator Glen H. Sturtevant, Jr. (R-Chesterfield) will serve as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce and Labor through the remainder of 2019.

“Congratulations to Senator Glen Sturtevant on his appointment to serve as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce & Labor,” said Christopher West, Executive Director of Conservatives for Clean Energy. “Senator Sturtevant has been a strong supporter of advancing clean and renewable energy sources in Virginia, helping to grow our economy and create thousands of jobs. His efforts are diversifying our energy portfolio, giving families and businesses more options for their own energy usage, and making Virginia more competitive. Sturtevant championed legislation that will greatly increase access to energy efficiency programs in the Commonwealth, helping individuals reduce their energy consumption and save money on their electric bills. I know as Chairman of Commerce & Labor, Senator Sturtevant will continue to champion policies to advance clean energy development here in Virginia.”

Senator Glen Sturtevant patroned SB 855 in 2018 to reduce burdensome regulatory requirements on energy efficiency programs, and SB 1769 in 2019 to greatly expand access to net metering for customers served by electric cooperatives. In 2017, he served as a member of the special subcommittee on renewable energy.  Conservatives for Clean Energy Virginia named Sturtevant their 2018 Senate Clean Energy Champion.
