New Poll: Floridians concerned about energy costs, strong support for solar alternatives ahead of 2026 elections
Survey from Conservatives for Clean Energy Florida suggests energy concerns will be top of mind issues for voters
Tallahassee, Fla. – A new statewide poll shows Floridians are feeling the pinch of higher energy bills, with the overwhelming majority of voters (82%) saying their utility costs are going up. The survey also found that pocketbook issues dominate voter concerns. Inflation, taxes, housing affordability, and higher utility costs all rank as top concerns for likely voters.
The poll, conducted by Cygnal, a nationally recognized polling firm with extensive experience in Florida, on behalf of Conservatives for Clean Energy Florida and targeting likely Florida voters, shows growing concern over affordability and interest in cleaner energy options across the state. The data suggests these issues will remain central as Florida heads into the 2026 elections.
- Clean energy alternatives have strong support. 78% of Floridians back the growth of clean energy, including more than six out of every ten Republicans.
- Strong support exists for solar energy. 67% of voters say they are more likely to support candidates who back solar energy expansion. 68% would be more likely to support a candidate who backs policies friendly to rooftop solar.
- Support for nuclear energy received notable approval. 62% of voters favor expanded production and the restarting of decommissioned plants.
- Floridians connect energy policy to national security. 67% of voters, including 77% of Republicans, say energy independence is a national security issue. Most believe America’s safety depends on reducing reliance on foreign energy. They support accelerating clean energy adoption and attracting private investment in data centers to guard against manipulation and AI dominance from countries like Russia and China.
“Working families and small businesses will continue to feel the pinch of higher electricity prices if Florida is over-reliant on any one energy source,” said Conservatives for Clean Energy Florida Executive Director Zachary Colletti. “Florida voters are ready to support leaders who protect their pocketbooks and peace of mind. Expanding solar and getting serious about nuclear are key to delivering both for Floridians.”
Growing concern over rising costs is fueling interest in cleaner energy across the state, and these findings suggest those issues will be front and center in the 2026 legislative elections.
This survey was conducted August 26–27, 2025, with a sample of 1,000 likely 2026 general election voters in Florida. The probabilistic survey has a margin of error of ±3.09%. Respondents, all known registered voters, were interviewed via online panel and SMS. Results were weighted to reflect a likely 2026 general election voter audience.
